Nā Hopena A‘o (“HĀ”) is the Hawaii Department of Education framework for conditions needed to promote learning. These conditions for learning closely parallel Unitarian Universalist principles. This is not a coincidence. Conditions for learning = conditions for spiritual harmony and growth = necessary steps towards peace and wholeness. Teachers will share moments when their students made breakthroughs: what happened, what conditions enabled this growth, what the teacher did to tilt the odds towards new learning.
