Social Justice Team News
- You may have heard about Pu’uhonua O Waianae (Mama Twinkle’s community and our Share the Plate recipient for May) on the news recently. Senator Samantha DeCorte held a surprise press conference protesting DLNR’s decision to extend to October the deadline for moving the remaining Boat Harbor residents to the Mauka Village and clear everything out of the Boat Harbor Village. Marie Anne and Francine Less visited the villages this week. The residents are all working so hard day after day to accomplish these goals. We were told that 30 new container living units are on order for Mauka Village and that will accommodate 30 residents from the Boat Harbor Village, and the remaining 20-30 residents will be moved thereafter. The Mauka Village has different types of living accommodations including an ADA compliant kupuna section.
- Our share the plate recipient organization for June is Hawaii Health and Harm Reduction Center.
