Moral Courage & Nonviolent Transformation with Lawrence Edward Carter, Sr.

Join us for a conversation about Moral Courage & Nonviolent Transformation with Lawrence Edward Carter, Sr., Dean of the Martin Luther King, Jr. International Chapel and Professor of Religion at Morehouse College. A scholar of ethics and nonviolence, he is the founder of Morehouse’s Gandhi King Ikeda Institute for Ethics and Reconciliation and the International Hall of Honor, a collection of more than 300 portraits honoring civil and human rights leaders.

Following Dr. Carter’s speech, a discussion will be moderated by Maya Soetoro, Matsunaga Institute for Peace, with panelists Brien Hallett, Matsunaga Institute for Peace; Ann Hartman, East-West Center; and Adin Strauss, Soka Gakkai International–USA.

Parents’ Day 2026

One of the most important holidays that is not well known is Parents’ Day! In 1994 Congress unanimously passed “The Parents’ Day Resolution” establishing the fourth Sunday of July as a perennial day of commemoration. The family is the foundation for a healthy and prosperous society. I hope we can all go beyond the boundaries of race, creed and religion and uphold God’s dream of one world, one family. Let’s make Hawaii the model of a peaceful world not just externally but internally as well!
