Feelin’ the Spirit

08/01/2023/by Suzette Tom
A look at the power of Spirit in Unitarian Universalism. What is it? How does it work? What does it mean in our “rational” faith?
Rev. Jen Simon (they/she) is the assistant minister at Jefferson Unitarian Church in Golden, CO, as well as cofounder of the Mountain Top BIPOC UU community. Jen’s calling is to provide space for BIPOC UUs and their families to live into the fullness of their spiritual growth and expression, as well as to provide resources to our UU communities as they do the work of dismantling white supremacy within and without. Jen lives with her partner Damien, son Gabe, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a snail. She spends her free time happily trying to keep up with them (except the snail).

How can we help? Unitarian Universalists in central Florida send our love. How can our cluster of congregations be helpful to Hawaii in response to the recent wildfires in your state. With best wishes always.

Thank you for your compassion and desire to help! Below are two good ways to contribute:

The UUA Disaster Relief Fund (https://giving.uua.org/disaster-relief) provides suuport to UU congregations or non-profit entities for current disaster needs, as well as new emergency situations wherever and whenever they occur.

The Hawaii Community Foundation Maui Strong Fund (https://www.hawaiicommunityfoundation.org/maui-strong) is providing financial resources that can be deployed quickly, with a focus on rapid response and recovery for the devastating wildfires on Maui.

Your donations and good wishes are much appreciated.

I’m a UU member in the southwest. Please share ideas for ways to get resources to where they can be accessed quickly. We send our love, as well.
