Black Lives UU: We’re Back!

June Worship: Stories from the Deep

In times of crisis and collapse, it can be difficult to see the examples of cooperation and sustainability all around us; to believe that it can be better than it is right now. The world of our older non-human relatives rests on interconnected cycles of death, rebirth, and alignment. As the seasons change, we will explore three stories from the deep sea.

Black Sacred Space:

BLUU’s online worship services are Black Sacred Space in their entirety — by and for Black people, with the words and voices of Black folks across the diaspora — and we hope that Black UUs and Black UU-adjacent folks (who share our values) from far and wide will join us!

For our non-Black siblings in faith, please DO share this invitation with Black folks in your life and community. Getting the word out about BLUU’s gatherings and other programming is one powerful way of lending your support, and we deeply appreciate it!

For all of our services, feel free to come into our BLUU Zoom Room as early as 15 minutes before the start of the service to get settled, say hello to the folks who are already gathering, and listen to the music softly playing as we all prepare for our time together.

Risk Discernment with BLUU & DRUUMM

In a climate of intensifying political pressure, targeting of those who dissent, and erosion of constitutional rights, how do we continue to move forward in justice work while protecting ourselves and our communities?

BLUU and DRUUMM are partnering for a vital, timely panel discussion on risk discernment for people of the global majority (Black, Indigenous, and people of color). Join us for a critical conversation grounded in love, faith, and community care, followed by an open Q&A.

BLUU & Mighty Networks

During our virtual community gatherings last fall, a few of you recommended Mighty Networks as an alternative social media platform BLUU should try. While we work on launching the BLUU Community space on Mighty Networks, we invite you to share additional feedback.

If you’re currently using Mighty Networks or have experience with the platform, email your feedback to katie@blacklivesuu.org.

BLUU Website Update

We recently experienced a few technical issues with our website and are happy to report the Black Lives UU site is back up and is healthy!

Our team has been working with an amazing group at Tech Impact to make sure we don’t run into the same issues again. We apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused, and we thank you for your patience and your trust.

Support BLUU

Since our inception, BLUU has been a beacon for Black people seeking liberation and a deep, inclusive spirituality that honors their lived experiences. We want to continue to be a beacon, but we need your help to do so.

Donations from our UU community and aligned friends support programming, spiritual care, and advances social justice initiatives. BLUU provides spaces for Black folks to feel more connected, allowing us to collectively imagine more possibilities. BLUU Beloveds find strength to fight the systems of oppression and collectively work with our UU community to change them. We also work in solidarity with other marginalized groups across the world; we know none of us are free until we’re all free.

Will you support our efforts by donating today?

BLUU Beloved

A collage of Black Unitarian Universalists in worship or gathering together at meetings. Text says Become a BLUU Beloved
A membership with BLUU is for Black people who passionately participate in our mission of serving Black UUs (and non-UUs) through our online worship services, programs, and events. By being active and paid-members of BLUU, our Beloved members directly support (and help cover costs) for our online and in-person offerings. Together, we create Black Sacred Space and a place to call home for spiritually diverse Black folks who believe in justice-making through faith.

A gentle reminder that we offer pastoral care. Please call or text our pastoral care line at 984-219-8710 to arrange a time that works for you. We are grateful for your life and will be honored to be on the journey with you.

Pastoral care is a model of emotional and spiritual support that can be found in all cultures and traditions. People who provide pastoral care offer support to people in their joys, sorrows, and uncertainties associated with specific life events occurring while part of the community in which pastoral caregivers serve. Spiritual care is a multi-faceted model of support in individuals’ search for meaning, purpose, wholeness, and connection in day-to-day life.
