| September is Food Waste Prevention Month — a time to think about how we can all waste less and make the most of the food we have.At Aloha Harvest, we do our part by rescuing quality surplus food that would otherwise go to waste and redistributing it to community organizations across Oʻahu.
But food waste prevention starts at home, too! A few simple ways to waste less:
Plan your meals before grocery shopping
Use what you have before buying more
Freeze food before it goes bad
Check your fridge regularly and keep food you need to use soon front and center
Get creative with food that’s past its prime — overripe produce can still make great smoothies, sauces, or baked goods
Small changes add up. Here’s to wasting less and making more of what we have! |
