Social Justice Team News

09/15/2026/by Francine Less
  • Our congregation donated $1128.58 via Share the Plate contributions for August to Mohala Mai.
  • Our Share the Plate recipient for September is UU Caican Philippines, our sister church.

  • Be an Election Volunteer for Common Cause – Common Cause Hawai’I is looking for volunteers to help ensure all Hawaiʻi voters have access to a fair and accessible voting experience. Volunteer opportunities include: in-person poll monitoring, poll shuttle driving, and drop box monitoring. Most volunteer roles require just a few hours of training and one or more shifts during the Election Day period, making it an accessible way to support democracy and protect the right to vote in Hawaiʻi. Please email Nicole at Common Cause Hawai’I to sign up, or with any questions!
  • Also coming in September: Kickoff of UU Honolulu’s 2027 Hawaii Legislature Calendar.
  • Next month is Pride Month on Oahu. Save the date for the Pride Parade and Pride Fest on October 17th.
  • Election Interference Webinar

Donald Trump continues to challenge mail-in voting, creating widespread uncertainty over the integrity of the upcoming election. As we await the Supreme Court’s ruling on his recent Executive Order, join us with speaker Judith Wong, President of the Hawai‘i League of Women Voters, to discuss what this means for voters, what recourse is available, and how we can each contribute:

• How do we vote securely and increase turnout?

• What threats have been identified, and what safeguards are in place?

• What security gaps remain, and what is being done about them?

• What role can grassroots action play in election security?

This Lunch+Learn Webinar expands on Hawai‘i J20+’s July 24 Solidarity Forum (watch recording). Register below to join live or have access to its recording. Registrants will receive the login link on the morning of the event.

Co-sponsors: Hawai‘i J20+, Indivisible Hawai‘i Statewide Network, League of Women Voters, O‘ahu Rapid Response Coalition
