Partner with Common Cause Hawaiʻi’s Election Protection Program

09/09/2026/by Suzette Tom
Aloha,
My name is Nicole Ames, and I am the Election Protection Organizer with Common Cause Hawaiʻi, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and strengthening democracy.
As we prepare for the 2026 General Election, we are looking to partner with community organizations, faith groups, and civic-minded individuals to recruit volunteers and help ensure all Hawaiʻi voters have access to a fair and accessible voting experience.
Common Cause Hawaiʻi’s Election Protection Program helps ensure that every eligible voter can cast a ballot and have that ballot counted. While Hawaiʻi conducts elections primarily by mail, many voters still need assistance navigating the voting process, using voter service centers, accessing ballot drop boxes, or overcoming barriers that may prevent them from voting. Election Protection volunteers play a critical role in observing and documenting issues, providing nonpartisan information, and helping connect voters with resources when needed.
Volunteer opportunities include:
  • In-person poll monitoring on Election Day: Volunteers observe voting locations and report potential issues.
  • Poll shuttle drivers
  • Drop box monitoring: Brief drive-by observations of ballot drop box locations to document conditions and accessibility.
Most volunteer roles require just a few hours of training and one or more shifts during the Election Day period, making it an accessible way to support democracy and protect the right to vote in Hawaiʻi.
We would be grateful for your help sharing this opportunity with your members, staff, clients, or community networks. I would also be happy to speak with your organization about our program and ways we can work together.
Mahalo for your time and consideration. I look forward to connecting with you.
Best,

Nicole Ames (Nikki)
