OWL Follow-up - Archived
This is a follow up on Sunday’s service: Our Whole Lives: Celebrating the Joy of Sex-uality Education.
We had wonderful poetry, stirring music, a very brief history of sexuality education among Unitarian Universalists, and an announcement of a new Our Whole Lives program: Sexuality Education for Older Adults.
As is the custom with OWL programs, we handed out cards and pens, and asked people in the congregation to write down questions about the program to be, about sexuality education, and about sexuality. The questions are all anonymous.
Here are some of the questions, and the answers:
- Who, exactly, ARE older adults, for heaven’s sake?
According to the UUA’s curriculum, people past mid-life, whenever that is. In small print, it says 55+. If you have a question about this, let’s talk about it. - How many sessions, and when??
Fourteen sessions, weekly. Most likely to begin on Saturday, January 24, 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. Day and time are determined by when space at the church is available, and by the fact that some people in this age group do not drive and certainly don’t want to drive at night. Fourteen weeks takes us through the end of April! And we may take a break for Easter, and work around other important activities involving our congregation. - In person, on Zoom, or both?
In person, only. We ask that participants make a commitment to attending all sessions, as we will be discussing deeply personal stuff, and trust depends on continuity. Yes, we know, but this is the intention for this program. Again, if you have questions, let’s talk. - Do I really have to talk about my own life and experiences, really?
No! We will be doing exercises and exploring topics that may be difficult for some or all of us. We always have the right to pass, that is, not answer a question. This is not truth-or-dare, and it is not group therapy.
We will be answering more of the question cards in next week’s newsletter.
