On Sunday, December 14, we had wonderful poetry, stirring music, a very brief history of sexuality education among Unitarian Universalists. We also announced a new Our Whole Lives program: Sexuality Education for Older Adults.
As is the custom with OWL programs, we handed out cards and pens, and asked people in the congregation to write down questions about the program to be, about sexuality education, and about sexuality.
Here are some more of the questions, and the answers:
- Who are ‘older adults’?
Age 55+ - How many sessions, and when?
Fourteen sessions, weekly. Every Friday, beginning January 23, 3 p.m. – 5 p.m., and run through the end of April. - In person, on Zoom, or both?
In person, at our church. - Do I really have to talk about my own life and experiences, really?
No! - If we have a partner, or partners, can they attend, too?
Sure. This may be super enlightening for all of us. - Will you talk about low sex drive? Am I alone? What to do if the actual kind of sex is no longer working, and I am not ready for it to end?
Yes, we will be talking about all kinds of things relating to sex drive, especially as we age, and face changes in our bodies and abilities and desires. - How does this program benefit and apply to the LGBTQIA community?
Aspects of aging and sexuality are shared by folks of many gender, sexual and affectional orientation. These are part of our lives even as we age. We will be exploring gender roles, how we learned them, how we cope with our own and others’/society’s expectation of us. As an older/aging group we recognize that our earlier experiences may have been very negative, and that also applies to all of us. We will include UU and our church’s history of social justice with respect to sexuality and sexuality education.
