Moments like this demand moral courage

The U.S. is in a democratic crisis. Voting Rights are under attack. Political violence is increasingly normalized. Polarization defines our public discourse. Othering and scapegoating are rife. Marginalized communities face escalating harm. These are not distant risks; they are shaping federal policy and institutions right now. Moments like this demand moral courage. They demand organized, visible, faith-rooted leadership and spiritual discipline.

Unitarian Universalists for Social Justice (www.UUSJ.org) is focused on raising the voices of our faith tradition in the halls of power. We advance UU values in the federal government by organizing congregations, mobilizing advocates, and speaking with moral clarity at moments of national consequence.

Join us as we advocate for democracy, human dignity, and justice grounded in love.

Promotional graphic with the words “Meet the Moment” in large pale yellow text and “Dive into Wave Cohorts” in white text against a dark blue gradient background. A stylized ocean wave in shades of blue and teal rises across the lower half of the image, evoking motion and energy.

Last week we highlighted three impactful Meet the Moment Wave Cohorts coming to General Assembly 2026. This week, we’re sharing three more opportunities to engage deeply with some of the questions facing our faith communities right now, from multigenerational worship and parenting in uncertain times to building sustainable congregational staffing models.

Multigenerational Worship: Connection to Spirituality, Identity & Each Other

🎤 Facilitated by Rev. Mykal Slack and Adena Dannouf

Virtual, on Zoom, open to all

In a world of uncertainty, worship is the space where many find time to recharge and refill their spirit. Worship is also often the space where Unitarian Universalists of many ages learn to be UUs. Offering meaningful worship for people of all ages and abilities requires more than just saying “All are welcome.” It calls us to shape those spaces to be welcoming by examining the elements and purposes of worship in new ways. Join this exploration of worship and how to connect all ages to their own spirituality, to our faith as a whole, and to one another.

Raising Children in the Midst of Collapse

🎤 Facilitated by Rev. Sara Goodman and Taylor Giordano

Virtual, on Zoom, open to all

Parents, and other folks who help raise children and youth, are in a tough spot right now. Trying to balance teaching our young people about world events, and how to navigate the world grounded in Unitarian Universalist values, while also wanting to shield them from the horrors that surround us. How can we meet the moment in striking the right balance of preparation for the future without scarring them for life?

Staffing Sustainably and Faithfully

🎤 Facilitated by Jan Gartner

Virtual, on Zoom, open to all

Many congregations are facing the challenge of aligning their mission, priorities, and staffing with their financial realities. This Wave Cohort is for leaders who are eager to explore creative, values-driven approaches to finding sustainable models. We’ll delve into staffing history, trends, leadership frameworks, and the complex choices facing congregations today. Explore options, imagine “small bet” experiments, and learn from one another’s experiences. While much of our focus will be on financial sustainability, we’ll also consider sustainability for humans, including work/life balance, reasonable job scopes, manageable volunteer responsibilities, and backup plans.

Photos of the two candidates flank the whiteboard: Terry Grim on the left, labeled “Nominated by the Nominating Committee,” and Larry Ladd on the right, labeled “Nominated by Petition.” Decorative tape graphics, doodles, and question-and-answer icons surround the design.

The UUA Election Campaign Practices Committee (ECPC) will sponsor a Candidates Forum for Position #5 on the UUA Board of Trustees, featuring Terry Grim (nominated by the UUA Nominating Committee) and Larry Ladd (nominated by petition).

UUA Board Statement on the GA 2026 Elections

Elections are an important part of our Unitarian Universalist democratic process. The Nominating Committee, in accordance with our bylaws, “endeavors to nominate individuals so that the membership of the Board of Trustees and each elected committee reflects the full diversity of the Association, especially in regard to historically marginalized communities, but also balancing amongst size of congregation, lay and ordained, geography, age (including youth and young adults), and gender, among others” (Section 9.4).

In addition, people may choose to run by petition. In our elections, candidates agree to enter into a conversation with Unitarian Universalists about where our movement is going and how we will get there.

As the UUA Board of Trustees, we give thanks for the work of the Nominating Committee: actively seeking out, nurturing, and elevating the voices our community needs to hear. We give thanks for people who see the work of our faith and share their desire to be part of it with us all. We know our community is enriched when we work intentionally to expand the circle of leaders.

We affirm the slate put forward by the Nominating Committee, and we affirm our democratic process: the discussions and choices by which we find our way together. We are grateful for all of the people who wish to serve our faith and for the chance to fully exercise our democratic process together.
