Widening the Circle of Concern: Report of the UUA Commission on Institutional Change
analyzes structural and systemic racism and white supremacy culture within Unitarian Universalism and makes recommendations to advance long-term change.
Starting Sunday, Feb 7 through June 20, 2021, the First Unitarian Church of Honolulu Board launched an initiative to inform the congregation on the report. Each Sunday, a member of the Board or 8th Principle Task Force provided a video summary of one of the chapters of the book, and there was a discussion session after the church service. You can access the resources to read or listen to a chapter each week and watch the video summaries by clicking on this link. A.D.O.R.E. has generously purchased some copies of the book to make available to our members, so if you are interested, please email board@unitariansofhi.org and we’ll see if we can accommodate your request. We look forward to your participation as we conclude the congregational educational sessions and move on to the next phase.
Mahalo,
The Board of the First Unitarian Church of Honolulu
Is Widening being discussed tomorrow?( Mar 7)
What chapter ? Is that posted anywhere? I could not find it.
Aloha e David, yes, the conversation is happening on Sunday March 7. The conversations will be occurring each Sunday except ADORE Sundays and are marked on the church calendar. The post above contains a link to the “Widening the Circle of Concern” resources page under the “Learning” section of the website, but I can see that it is not obvious. I will make that clearer. Mahalo, Jim Cooper
