As we begin our slow ease out of the summer months here in the Northern Hemisphere, I’m looking forward to the (eventual) cooler weather. My home congregation is a week or two away from our annual Ingathering celebration and is gearing up for the fall schedule of classes and weekly gatherings. UUWF has also come back from our short summer hiatus in full force: we have increased our monthly programming AND launched our newest version of membership.

We have gotten to know each other over the past two years in my role as one of the National Organizers. My excitement to build deep relationships with you has led to changes in how we (UUWF) do things. We have spent a lot of time asking how we can serve you and what that means for the future of UUWF.

You may have noticed that my title and focus have changed over the last few months. I’m the new Membership and Community Engagement Specialist, supporting our membership structure and programming relationships. This pivot has helped UUWF be more explicit in how we express our values to the wider UU community.

We listened to your concerns and your suggestions. We’ve learned from the various membership models that UUWF has employed in the past, and we’re excited about offering a new membership program. We wanted to bring something that is not only worthwhile but in alignment with how folks wish to show up in the world.

Why Should I Join Membership?

We can build a better world together, and we want you to be on our team. UUWF is one of the leading voices in Unitarian Universalism because we know how meaningful relationships are. Our shared leadership model allows our staff to lead dynamic offerings that support your spiritual and educational growth. We have more than 60 years of history standing up for gender justice.

We’re not looking to be another organization you passively give money to; we want to grow in this work with you. You’ve seen the powerful growth UUWF has had in just the last two years. I invite you to add your name to our growing list of supporters as we dismantle systems of oppression and center women in the voices of collective liberation.

What Makes Membership Different?

Much of our programming will remain open to all women and gender-expansive people regardless of whether you join our official membership options.  Because we want you to connect to us in the ways that make you feel most comfortable, we have several ways to plug in. We believe that community is always important, so our Monthly Reads, Conversations, and Community Gatherings do not require membership to participate. In addition, you will always have access to our private online community forum space, Mighty Networks. 

Members are now invited to participate in monthly workshops to grow your organizing skills and workshop series, which we call Cohorts, to support your growth in a particular topic. Our membership offerings will give you hands-on, real-world experience to take back into your churches and organizations. Our first Cohort will launch in the Spring, celebrating our spiritual connections to Reproductive Justice. We want you to feel like this is a great fit, so please join our open-to-all women and gender-expansive programming to get a feel for who we are and what we value.

As our membership grows, we promise to continue listening to you and learning more about how we can support your needs in our collective liberation work. This membership isn’t built to completion because we want to grow with you. We are already in the process of restructuring our organizational or group membership to meet the needs of women’s groups and congregations.

I’m personally inviting our women and gender-expansive community to join Membership with UUWF. This annual contribution is a commitment to stewarding our community into the future. If you’ve been a member in the past, we ask you to re-commit by joining this new membership model.

All Membership Levels have the same amount of access to our membership programming. We invite you to select the level that works best for you. Right now, we are offering individual membership.
