Pride Parade & Brunch on Saturday, October 20th

We now have 2 Outstanding Options to offer for celebrating!!

  1. MARCH

Our friends at Harris United Methodist Church have invited us to join with them as they participate in the Pride Parade for the first time! Marchers will meet up in their church parking lot at 20 South Vineyard Blvd. at 8:30AM to prepare. If you have questions, please contact Kathy Kaknes at 781-443-4445 or kathy.kaknes@gmail.com.

2. WATCH & CHEER & BRUNCH

Our other fabulous option is to gather to watch the parade together! We’ll meet by the ABC Store across from the Duke Kahanamoku statue on the corner of Kalakaua Ave. and Uluniu Ave. in Waikiki. The parade starts at 11:00am, so come anytime before that to grab a spot! Brunch to follow the parade ~ location to be determined. If you have questions, please contact Marie Anne at 808-728-4842 or manne899@yahoo.com.

GET OUT THE VOTE!

Your Social Justice Council received a grant from the UUA to fund a Get Out the Vote project aimed at getting as many people as possible to the polls and letting the voice of the voiceless be heard.

To this end, we met with some of our houseless neighbors last week to help them register to vote, and in some cases, apply for absentee ballots. This week, we’ll post flyers and provide reminders about the Early Voting Transportation option we’re offering on Saturday, October 27th.

We are coordinating and collaborating with staff at Waikiki Health’s Next Step Shelter, Institute for Human Services (IHS), and Catholic Charities Hawai’i Family Assessment Center to make this happen.

We will be providing transportation to the polls, one of the greatest obstacles to voter participation, on Saturday, October 27, 2018. This is one of the Early Voting days in which citizens may register and vote at the same time at Honolulu Hale.

We will use a 15-passenger van to transport voters, both houseless and housed, as needed to the polls. We plan to provide snacks, as well as new socks and slippers to our voters.

Want to know how you can help? We need one more VOTER ASSISTANT OR DRIVER for the afternoon shift:  12:00PM-4:00PM. If you want to do this, please contact Kathy Kaknes at kathy.kaknes@gmail.com for details.
