Social Justice Corner - Archived

  • November 3rd is behind us, but there’s still an opportunity to help engage more people to vote!  ReClaim Our Vote recruited us to write another 1500 postcards for the senate runoff elections in Georgia.  Postcards can be picked up after church November 15 (3-5pm) and November 22 (if not all distributed on the 15th).  They will be available in multiples of 30 and are due to mail Dec 7.  To sign up, please email parkinson.h@gmail.com or stay tuned after church Nov 15 or Nov 22. Please note: stamps are not included.  If this is prohibitive for anyone, let us know and we have some extras we can include.
  • Social Justice Council, ADORE and other community members are developing a Criminal Justice Action Facebook page to debut in mid November.  Top priorities will be to block the construction of a new jail and provide an action plan for criminal justice reform.  Stay tuned!
  • FACE environmental working group is aiming to start a gas tax, the “Carbon Cash Back Program,” with proceeds going into a trust fund that would be returned to citizens.
  • FACE affordable housing working group supports Prop 2 which is designed to charge parking spaces separately from home prices as not everyone drives a car,  and this will free up more space for pedestrians.
New:  SJC Top Picks (social justice related book, movie or podcast recommendations from Dave, Jackie, Hilary, Nancy, Nick and/or Raelyn)
  • Hilary recommends: How to citizen by Baratunde. A podcast that reimagines “citizen” as a verb and helps reclaim our collective power.
