Social Justice Council would love your help writing just 8 postcards to urge legislators to support the Carbon Cashback Program.
Carbon Cashback would set a fee on fossil fuels as they are imported into Hawaii, which would have the effect of raising their prices to consumers. This would reduce demand for fossil fuels and make renewable energy more competitive. The revenue from the fee would be returned to residents of Hawaii in equal shares. Under this program, the majority of Hawaii residents benefit, especially low income families.

Sample message:
Aloha Rep. (or Sen.) [LAST NAME],
I am deeply concerned that Hawaii is not doing enough to control climate change. A carbon fee and dividend bill called Carbon Cashback has been introduced in the legislature, HB134 and SB311. This bill would reduce fossil fuel emissions while financially benefiting the majority of Hawaii’s residents. Please support Carbon Cashback.
Sincerely,
[YOUR NAME]
Please include your return address on the postcard so legislators know you live in Hawaii.
You’re welcome to use your own postcards, but we are happy to supply them! Email salth2onancy@gmail.com to pick them up town-side or email Parkinson.h@gmail.com to pick them up on the windward side.
Thanks for this information, Hilary! This really makes it easy to accomplish!
