GUN CONTROL, SCHOOL SAFETY, AND YOUTH LEADERSHIP
Whereas, Many states permit military-type weapons without adequate background checks, and
Whereas, Individuals have attacked students and teachers in schools with automatic and semi-automatic weapons, and
Whereas, Schools have become places of fear for many students, and
Whereas, Populated areas and buildings have become targets for shooters, and
Whereas, Schools do not have adequate counselors to support student mental and emotional health, and
Whereas, High School students have stepped into leadership in achieving gun control, and
Whereas, Student voter registration drives, demonstrations, speeches, and actions are positive and powerful actions,
Therefore, Be it resolved that the First Unitarian Church of Honolulu will support gun control legislation, additional mental health counseling in schools and communities. Further, we will support youth leaders in their valiant and important quest for gun control and efforts to register young voters.
