Decades before the words transgender and intersex became part of the mainstream lexicon, Dr. Milton Diamond’s groundbreaking work formed the basis of research that continues to inform the study of human sexuality.
On Sunday, October 22 at 7:00 PM at Temple Emanu-El (2550 Pali Highway at Jack Lane in Nu’uanu) Professor Emeritus Dr. Milton Diamond sits down with Beth-Ann Kozlovich for a frank conversation about his work and its impact on the current understanding of human sexuality including transsexuality and intersexuality.
Dr. Diamond gained notoriety during the “John/Joan” case which involved David Reimer whose parents were told to raise him as a girl after a botched circumcision. This case is the subject of Anna Ziegler’s play “Boy” which is currently being performed by The Actors Group.
For many years Dr Diamond has worked in support of civil unions and same sex marriage. In addition he is a long time member of the Oahu Jewish community. Dr. Diamond, or “Mickey” as many know him, was a founding member of Congregation Sof Ma’arav.
