Juneteenth Worship at GA: “Meet the Moment: Freedom’s Unfinished Work”

Rev image

At this year’s UUA General Assembly, we invite you to gather in truth, love, and liberation for a special Juneteenth worship service titled Meet the Moment: Freedom’s Unfinished Work. The service will premiere on Thursday, June 19 at 9 a.m. ET on the GA app, with a live community screening in the Baltimore Convention Center. After the initial broadcast, the worship will be available to watch on demand in the GA app.

Led by Rev. E.N. Hill, minister of the UU Church of Tallahassee, this powerful worship experience will honor Juneteenth—the day in 1865 when the last enslaved Black Americans learned of their freedom. As we reflect on this history, we are called to recognize that freedom is not a singular event in the past but a continuous struggle and sacred calling.

Rooted in this year’s General Assembly theme, “Meet the Moment,” this service offers a bold invitation: to respond to today’s injustices—attacks on immigrants, poor people, bodily autonomy, DEI programs, and LGBTQ+ dignity—with moral courage, shared wisdom, and faithful imagination.

Through story, song, and spirit, we will explore what it means to meet this moment with deep love and a renewed commitment to justice. Together, we will honor our ancestors, recommit to collective liberation, and affirm the core of our Unitarian Universalist faith: None of us is free until all of us are free.

About the Worship Leader

Rev. E.N. Hill is an Air Force veteran, social justice activist, spoken word artist, and Unitarian Universalist minister. E.N. identifies as non-binary and welcomes all pronouns. They are a graduate of Starr King School for the Ministry, completed their parish internship in Ottawa, Canada, and were welcomed into preliminary fellowship with the UU Minister’s Association in 2022. E.N.’s ministry is rooted in prophetic witness, community healing, and radical love.

We hope you’ll join us for this sacred and stirring Juneteenth gathering.

Washington, D.C. | June 16–17, 2025

Speak justice in the language of your faith—UU Hill Day 2025 is your chance to raise your voice on Capitol Hill for human dignity, climate justice, and democracy.

As harmful policies take root under the new Trump administration—threatening immigrant communities, curbing freedoms, and slashing essential services—we know that silence is not an option. This June, ahead of General Assembly, we’re joining forces with UUs for Social Justice, UU Ministry for Earth, and our wider UU community to show up, speak out, and live our values.

Hill Day includes online advocacy trainings in May and June to help you feel confident and prepared, whether you’re new to this or a seasoned advocate. When we gather in D.C. on June 16, we’ll connect over a working dinner, review key messages, and get ready to meet face-to-face with Congressional offices the next day. We’ll close with an open-air vigil and debrief, grounding ourselves in community and purpose.

Now is the moment. Register today to be part of this powerful, faithful call for justice.

Questions? Reach out to advocacy@uusc.org

Let’s show up with love. Let’s take action for justice. See you in D.C.!

A Pilgrimage of the Heart

A group of people are gathered outdoors on a sunny day, some interacting with each other while others stand nearby. Two individuals in the foreground are embracing. One person is wearing a dark sweater, light-colored pants, and a red and black baseball cap, while the other has short dark hair, glasses, and is wearing a light-colored jacket over a dark top. They are standing on a paved area next to a raised planter with greenery. In the background, several other people are visible, some standing and talking, and others walking. A multi-story brick building with large windows forms the backdrop. The overall scene suggests a casual gathering or meeting taking place.

Meet the Moment: You Are Not Alone

GA 2025 Updated Health & Safety Policy

red puzzle piece with the words "HEALTH AND SAFETY" in bold white letters is shown fitting into a white puzzle. The surrounding puzzle pieces are white, and one piece is missing, emphasizing the importance of health and safety as a crucial part of the whole.

Grounded in the 2024 Action of Immediate Witness calling us to center the needs of the most vulnerable, the UUA has developed a health and safety policy for in-person participation at General Assembly 2025. The policy is informed by public health advisors, accessibility advocates, and lessons learned from previous gatherings.

Key Measures:

  • All attendees must have completed a full course of COVID-19 vaccination (medical exemptions allowed).
  • Please take a rapid COVID test before traveling.
  • Anyone with symptoms of illness should participate online.
  • Masks are required at all GA-sponsored indoor events in the convention center, including the registration concourse and exhibit hall (except when actively eating or drinking).
  • Masks will be available onsite.

These steps reflect our commitment to collective care, especially for disabled and immunocompromised participants. GA 2025 will also offer a robust virtual participation option, with flexible registration for in-person or online attendance.
