Workshops and In-person Meetups
All of our GA On Demand Workshops will be available to view before and during GA by going to this site. They are listed alphabetically there. Then you can join us in person to discuss the topics more deeply.
- Ecology as Scripture
To facilitate a shift in hearts & minds, sacred activists must bring together science and spiritual tenets to organize our choices and actions. This workshop is an exploration of climate change and how connecting the climate crisis to religious beliefs, teachings, and practices can inspire local and global actions. We encourage you to watch with a small group (pairs, trios, or more!) so you can discuss the activities during the recording. Rev. Dr. Leonisa Ardizzone. Join us in-person at GA to discuss further: Friday June 23, 11:00 – 11:45 AM ET, Room 324.
- Exploring Pathways to Fossil-Free Personal Divestment
Partnering with Rivers & Mountains GreenFaith Circle, UUMFE offers an on-demand workshop for individuals on how to move their finances from funding fossil fuel extraction, production, and distribution… and instead direct their bank deposits, insurance premiums, and investment portfolios to fund local businesses/farms, affordable housing, and development of renewable energy. Rev. Dr. Leonisa Ardizzone; Michael Richardson. Join us in-person at GA to discuss: Thursday, June 22, 1:00 – 1:45 PM ET, Room 323. We will also talk about congregational divestment in this session.
- May You Survive and Thrive! A Biodiversity Curriculum
Join UU Ministry for Earth for a workshop exploring our latest lifespan curriculum. Actions of Immediate WitnessÂ
One action that the delegates take when gathered in a General Assembly is to vote to approve “Actions of Immediate Witness.” According to the UUA Commission on Social Witness, an Action of Immediate Witness (AIW) is a statement about a significant action, event, or development in the world that necessitates immediate engagement and action among Unitarian Universalist member congregations and groups.
The initial votes are in for this year’s AIWs:Â
- 805 Votes:Â Protect the Dreamers, the Recipients of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) with a Pathway to Permanent Residence
- 648 Votes:Â Organizing for Health Equity
- 414 Votes:Â Rise Up to Stop Cop City
- 361 Votes:Â Not on Our Watch, Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine and Call for Action
- 300 Votes:Â Code Red for Humanity: The Climate Impacts of Military Emissions
- 247 Votes: Urgent Call to Action: Embracing the Goals and Provision of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons
The top 3 AIWs above will be placed on the General Session agenda to be discussed and voted on for potential adoption as statements of the Assembly.
We highlight that the AIW Organizing for Health Equity, authored by Rev. Robert Murphy of UUs for a Just Economic Community, elevates the call for partnership, mutual aid in response to the climate crisis, and the need to support a robust, sustainable Farm Bill in Congress. We urge your support!
We are inspired by all three of the AIWs up for consideration at this General Assembly. Particularly during a time that calls for solidarity, we affirm and support Protect the Dreamers, the Recipients of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) with a Pathway to Permanent Residence and Rise Up to Stop Cop City.
We want to thank and elevate the work of Cindy Piester, of UUs for a Just Economic Community, who worked hard to rally support for, “CODE RED for Humanity: The Climate Impacts of Military Emissions.” The AIW received 300 votes, meaning 93 more delegates supported the resolution this year than last year.
