Joel Merchant teaches an eight-week class on End of Life Issues at UH as part of their Life Long Learning program. He has agreed to facilitate two introductory workshops for us at the First Unitarian Church of Honolulu. We are beginning conversations together to explore these issues. The conversations can last the rest of our lives!
This second workshop, on Saturday, February 23, will be focused on the concerns of ‘youngers’, about their older loved ones and themselves.
The following is taken from Joel’s introduction to his UH class.
Adults are increasingly interested in learning about the issues and choices surrounding end-of-life. Despite the universality of death, the inventions of new technologies and political circumstances have created more ambiguities regarding the definition of death, and how to deal with the dying. These conflicts have increased the need for more informed decision-making regarding end-of-life issues. Individuals who make an effort to learn about the options may be in a better position to influence events in their own lives and those of their loved ones.
We hope to meet in The Sanctuary at the Church.
