A.D.O.R.E. Meeting (Sanctuary)

Date(s) - Jan 26, 2020
11:30 am - 2:30 pm

First Unitarian Church of Honolulu

Our January 26th ADORE meeting will be held in the UU Church sanctuary from 11:40am – 2:10pm with a newcomers’ orientation held from 11:30-11:40am. (1/2 hour has been added on to the usual 2-hour meeting to ensure enough time for discussion after viewing the 80-minute documentary.) We will view and discuss RIGGED: The Voter Suppression Playbook. “This film chronicles how our most important right, the right to vote, is being undercut by a decade of dirty tricks – including the partisan use of gerrymandering and voter purges and the gutting of the Voting Rights Act by the Supreme Court. The film captures the 2016 elections as we witness in real time voter purges in North Carolina and voter intimidation in Texas.” For an in-depth background and history of voter suppression leading up to the present, it is highly recommended that you read One Person, No Vote: How Voter Suppression Is Destroying Our Democracy by Carol Anderson, who is also the author of White Rage, an extremely insightful, awareness raising book that the ADORE Book Group read and discussed in 2019.

Pizza will be available for $1.50 per slice and free childcare will be available as well.

Allison and I look forward to your joining us on January 26th!
