Board Corner

05/20/2026/by Sue Yamane-Carpenter

Annual Report Preparation

As we close out the fiscal year and prepare for our annual meeting on June 21, we take time in May to prepare the Annual Report, which allows our congregation to reflect on the past year and to take part in the important decisions ahead. It helps members see what has been done, how resources have been used, and what deserves thoughtful attention as we plan for the year to come.  Committee and teams must submit their reports to our Office Manager, Suzette Tom, by May 31 – that’s two weeks away!

2026-27 Annual Budget Updates

Even if you attended an earlier budget meeting, please attend the June 2 Town Hall to familiarize yourself with the revisions to ministerial and music staffing in the upcoming fiscal year.  We have increased Rev Deborah’s compensation to the equivalent of 60% of full-time to reflect the actual time she is devoting to revitalizing areas of church life that have languished. In addition, we are excited to announce the transition of our pianist, Noe Baladad, to Director of Music, responsible for the choir and music program of the church.  The Board believes these two fiscal changes are critical to the church’s mission of boldly growing compassion, justice, and joy.

Important Voting Item Requiring a 2/3 Vote!

In addition to approving the budget and electing board and nominating committee members, the Board requests that the congregation approve the dissolution of The Document of the Endowment Fund, which creates and outlines the duties and responsibilities of the Endowment Committee. This committee has not been constituted for the past three years due to the congregation’s diminished size. However, the Endowment Fund policy restricts access to the funds to powers conferred only upon the Endowment Committee. Other aspects of the policy also impose financial burdens on the congregation to conduct a fund audit, which is quite expensive. This policy does not serve the purpose of a small church community. While the Board recommends that the Endowment Fund’s investment policy be retained, it recommends that the fund’s fiduciary responsibility be vested in the Finance Committee. For these reasons, the Board recommends that this policy, The Document of the Endowment Fund, be dissolved. This requires a 2/3 majority vote at a publicized meeting of the congregation. Please take the time to review this document and the investment policy document available in the member section of the website in the Documents and Policy Section.
