It’s time to celebrate!

UU Ministry for Earth’sĀ first annual Community Read,Ā What If We Get It Right: Visions of Climate FuturesĀ by Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson, is drawing to a close. If you’ve joined us at any point along the way, we hope you’ll attend next Tuesday, May 26th, for our final celebration!

How to prepare for our final session and closing celebration on May 26th:

  • ReadĀ the final section ofĀ WIWGIR:Ā TransformationĀ (p 397-428)
    • “A Note on Hope”
    • “An Ocean of Answers”Ā with Bren Smith
    • “To Be of Use”Ā by Marge Piercy
    • “Climate Oath”Ā with Oana StĒŽescu
    • “The Joyous Work”
    • “Away from the Brink”
  • ConsiderĀ these questions, from theĀ WIWGIR Reading Guide:
    • What is your take on hope in the context of climate change?
    • Having read the whole book, can you describe what “getting it right,” or elements of it, would be like for you?
    • Where/how can you imagine yourself as a part of getting it right on climate?
    • How are you drawn to encourage others to find their roles in climate action?
  • PrintĀ a copy of the Climate Action Venn Diagram:
    • We will revisit thisĀ Climate Action Venn DiagramĀ from our very first session.
  • PrepareĀ to celebrate!
    • Arrange your space comfortably and free from distractions. Maybe that means steeping a cup of tea, having a blanket in your lap, or ensuring that your physical needs are tended to prior to our gathering.
    • Bring a little treat to enjoy, to liven the mood.
    • Reflect on the arc of your year – what has uplifted you about this year’s Community Read? What would you like to experience again? What would you change if you could? Help us dreamĀ about the future Community Read, coming up in the fall of 2026!

We look forwardĀ toĀ ourĀ final celebration next Tuesday, May 26th!

Plan to arrive at 7:40 ET/6:40 CT/5:40 MT/4:40 PT, to enjoy gathering music fromĀ theĀ What if We Get it Right?Ā Anti-ApocalypseĀ MixtapeĀ (SpotifyĀ |Ā Apple).

Until then,

Rev. Lauren Levwood, Acting Director, UUMFE

Dr. Anne-Marie McCartan, Board Member, UUMFE

Cheyenne Herlandstein, Resident Educator, UUMFE

Chelsea McCoy, Climate Justice Movement Chaplain Intern, UUMFE
